IMAGE ANALYSIS TIP OF THE WEEK: Segment Gamma Prime...Objectively

Researchers struggle with the challenging problem of accurately and objectively defining boundaries of gamma prime precipitates in Nickel-base Superalloys

The new Smart Find? technology breaks through this challenge. How?

1 - Roughly select particles with a threshold - it doesn’t have to be perfect

2 - Invert and erode this to roughly select background

3 - Thin 1 and 2 down to their skeletons (for speed)

4 - Hand 3 off to Smart Find? and let it do the rest!

SmartFind? will be introduced in MIPAR v1.2.0 this Thursday, 5/4.

Hi Markus - thanks for the question! I am not sure how this sample was prepared, but I would be happy to investigate for you. We have characterized images of gamma prime from a wide range of Nickel-base superalloys which have underwent a host of preparation techniques. Let me know how else I can help!

Hello, what kind of etching was used for this gamma prime investigation? Which nickelbase superalloy have you tested?
