I'm a Virgo and I want to read with you
There has to be a Nordic term for when a TV show captures the essence of everything that’s good about art and creativity and filmmaking. Whatever that word is, I felt all of it while watching the new Prime Video series?I’m a Virgo.?It charts a young Black man’s journey of self-discovery through a world that doesn’t understand him, and was built — literally — to keep him trapped in a prison of his own DNA.
Cootie (Jharrel Jerome), is a 13-foot tall giant living in Oakland, California under the watchful eye of adoptive parents Lafrancine and Martisse (Carmen Ejogo and Mike Epps). Cootie was cool, but I’m really here for Flora; the stunning, kind-hearted ever-supportive love interest played by Olivia Washington, who has struggled to find her place in the world because she’s too fast for everyone else — literally. She’s cursed with super speed which means she can get anything done in basically a split second, a skill that makes her freakishly efficient at her job making burgers at?Bing Bang.
The analogy here about a Black woman who feels isolated because the world around her moves too slowly hit me like a gut punch.

1 年After reading this article; this sounds like a pretty interesting show to watch! I feel there was a missed opportunity to sprinkle in some spoiler free plot elements or expanded on what makes this show appealing to new watchers. I like your focus on Flora, as a "ever-supporting love interest," and can see why she stood out. Is the full article membership access only? I'll definitely check out the show regardless!
