"I'm too good for this ..."?
There's a lot that goes into producing USDA qualified food products - most of which isn't as glamorous as people think.

"I'm too good for this ..."

“I’m too good for this ...”?

I see so many people with this mindset or hell - even say it out loud when it comes to doing a particular job (especially physical labor) they don’t like or feel like they’re too qualified to do.?

For my brothers and I - we were raised with the mindset that no matter WHAT we’re doing - whether it’s janitorial duties or eventually sitting in the Presidential office, we’re never too good to give it our absolute best, be the hardest worker in the room and treat that job as if it’s the most important thing we could be doing.

This was in the first couple weeks of getting the Apex Protein Snacks facility up and running. Here’s a blurry pic of me, hairnet falling off and all carrying out empty boxes of trash from the raw side of the facility after a day of learning to run product.?

I did this for a few weeks when we first got up and running.?

And to those of you saying “well don’t you have more important things to do?” or “isn’t that a waste of efficiency?”

Yes. It is.?

I don’t deny that.?

But if it weren’t for learning how to do the inefficient things and learn the intricate details of every job in the organization (especially at a start up) - how do you know you’re not expecting too much production wise from team members (or subcontractors) … or on the flip side getting screwed over by them??

Our team is full of rockstars. Our Apex facility crew is about to take it to another level as we blow the brand up - and they know if push came to shove my ass could and would be in the facility if need be because I was in there for the very start of it and know the inner workings of the facility.?

I just had this conversation the other day with a buddy of mine discussing real estate - on your first few fix and flips - you HAVE to do the manual work yourself. To learn what it takes, to learn what to expect production wise when you move on to the higher end work, and to know how to become efficient.?

So if you think you’re too good to do any lower level work - just know your day of reckoning will come. The minute you think you’re too good to help in moments of need is the minute your team realizes you think you deserve a pedestal under your ass and a crown on your head and they will leave you during the first hardship.?Guaranteed.

Leave you sitting there with no team and a facility to run where you DON’T know anything about it because you never did the work you thought you were too important to learn.?

Moral of the story: you have to do the inefficient things to become efficient. There’s no other way around it.?And every job within an organization is just as important as the others - so treat it as such. It takes a bought in TEAM to build a fully functioning ORGANIZATION - from the front lines to the executives.

I’ve noticed the leaders I respected most when I was asked to do the more physical tasks were the ones who had been there once before themselves. It’s so true that you must know the whole process to be as efficient as possible in the organization. I always asked myself why do I need to know this. When asked to do these tasks instead of thinking I was better than the task.
