"and I'm telling YOU, I'm a Plumber!"?

"and I'm telling YOU, I'm a Plumber!"

What business are you in?

Be careful…

How you answer IS guiding your success from now on.

Ask 100 business owners what business they’re in. 97 of them will tell you what they do. That isn’t the question.

They’ll tell you,

“I own a plumbing company.” Some may say, “I’m a

Veterinarian,” “I’m a jeweler,” “ I build stained glass aquariums”

Nope!

If you own the shop, you may think you’re a

plumber, jeweler or vet, but the day you took ownership is the

day you became something VERY different…

Ask Phil Knight, the guy who started a little company called NIKE. (worth $40 Billion at last count)

You know how Phil answers the question “What business are you in?”

He’ll say “I’m a Marketer, whose product happens to be the finest athletic shoes in the world”.

When you took ownership, that’s the day you became a Marketer of jewelry, plumbing services, pet healthcare, or whatever.

When you own the business, your #1 task is to

“bring in the business.”

You’re no longer an operator. You became a MARKETER.

Let’s face it, other folks can do pretty much everything else; buying and managing inventory, making employee schedules, training, accounting, design & craftsmanship; you name it.

But if you fail in the area of bringing in the business,

you have no business!

Dare you relegate this task? Depends…how broke do you want to be!

Unfortunately, most owners never realize this vital truth.

Which is WHY they’re hurting for money. So…

Congrats! You’re a Marketer!

Because NOTHING good happens until something gets sold,

you are a member of the most honorable profession on Earth!

There are only three ways to grow your Business…

1.Get more customers

2.Who pay you more money

3.Get your existing customers to come back and buy more often.

Sure, it takes time before you have the know-how, skills, habits

and systems in place to make sure ALL 3 of these things happen in your

enterprise.

When was the last time you worked ON your business,

instead of just being IN it?

Here's an EASY way to get back in the game...

Start with a simple commitment of 30 minutes a work day.

HIDE if you have to! NO distractions!

Set aside at least a half hour a day to work on the marketing systems of your business.

Soon you’re going to love your systems. Maybe not at first, (they do take some work) But they will pay you back again and again. Systems mean you don't have to "reinvent the wheel" ever again!

Believe it or not, this half an hour will become FUN!

In fact, around my house we take bets on Marketing. Which Email will perform better? (The gorilla or the giraffe?). Loser buys dinner!

Remember, you’re working on developing and implementing marketing systems, not operating them.

Plus, you’re building a Marketing HABIT.

Take a good hard look at ALL of your marketing. Lay it out on index cards on the table, a list on some legal pads, even a white-board or spreadsheet.

Be as specific as you can. Instead of just writing “Email”, list something like “Valentines day promotion”. Start date, how many did you send? To whom? Any “split tests” you might have run. End date, # of leads, conversion rate, you get the idea.

(if you have no idea what I’m talking about it’s OK! Just make sure you take advantage of our free report below)

Choose a marketing project, one that has the best chance of making money (getting more customers) FAST! Something you know you should be doing, but can’t seem to “find the time.”

The key is to remain true to the commitment. Set an appointment with yourself and honor it. Unless the building is literally burning down, do not let anything – even clients – interfere with this effort.

Our Coaching clients spend an hour each workday on Marketing, and the results have been stunning! We helped a recent client make a TWO WORD change to his headline. Response grew by 2100%!

C’mon, anybody can do 30 minute bites until it’s complete, and you’re satisfied. That’s only 1 episode of “Manimal”! (Google it) It’s about a guy who can change himself into any animal to help Police solve crimes. (strangely, it only lasted one season)

I can guarantee once you get into this Marketing “Habit”, life gets a lot better. The feelings you’ll have when finished are amazing!

Experts equate these sensations with the satisfaction of sex. OK, our “experts” are really giraffes. It’s still FUN!

It’s fun because (probably for the first time in a long time) you’ll be working ON your business and not just IN it!

Once you’ve re-worked your choice to your satisfaction, then pick another project and repeat the process. You MUST always Test & Track. How are you going to know what works?

(I know half of my advertising is working, I just don't know which half!)

As a copywriter, I’m always careful of “falling in love” with the message. It’s human nature. This is “your baby”. Well, would you rather be proud, or make money?

As one of my favorite mentors, Dan Kennedy says… “Measurement removes all argument”.

You want to become a relentless DIRECT RESPONSE marketing machine!

DIRECT RESPONSE (or PERFORMANCE-BASED) MARKETING is

the ONLY kind of marketing you should be doing.

Forget “Establishing Awareness”, “Image” and my favorite…“Branding”.

Toss everything that can’t be held directly accountable to the bottom line. When you do, you’ll be creating a well-oiled Money Machine.

You must be relentless in demanding a clear measurement of your marketing. If you’re trying to “build your brand” – whatever that means – it must be a FREE by-product of the DIRECT RESPONSE marketing that you do.

Which is tested, measured, analyzed, adjusted and

then sent out to the big mean world…again.

That means making different offers, testing & tracking,

keeping and improving what works and FIRING everything that doesn’t.
