I’m Stupid ??

I’m Stupid ??

No one taught me how to play basketball.?

My mother is 5’7”. My father is 5‘8“. I have one sister who doesn’t play sports.

No one in the neighborhood took me under their wing. None of the local coaches saw potential in me (with good reason).?

I never played one second of AAU basketball.

The first time I got recruited was in college, before my sophomore year as a transfer player, and that was by dumb luck.

Yet, I made it to the professional level in basketball because I’m stupid.

Stupid enough to keep trying.?

Stupid enough to ignore the people who told me I was wasting my time practicing on the sweltering hot asphalt courts in the middle of the Philadelphia summer.

Stupid enough to try out for my high school team a fourth time when I had not made it the first three times.

Stupid enough to spend the summer after my freshman year going to my campus gym and working on my game alone, and running into a guy who recruited me on the spot to the school where I met people who are my closest friends to this very day.

Stupid enough to spend my first post graduate year working at Foot Locker and Bally Total Fitness while plotting on my opportunity to TRY to play professionally.

Stupid enough to negotiate with my boss at Bally to get the weekend off (nobody gets weekends off in retail) so I could spend my last $250 at a professional basketball exposure camp.

Stupid enough to cold call 60 basketball agents in the summer of 2005, looking for someone to represent me and help start my career.

Stupid enough to mail copies of my VHS-tape game footage (ask your parents or google it) to the agents who took my call.?

Stupid enough to go through a similar process multiple times over the course of my career to keep it alive.

Smart enough to recognize “reality,” but stupid enough to know when to ignore it.?

Develop what we call the “Bulletproof Mindset” that I employed through all of my stupidity here: https://www.WorkOnYourGameUniversity.com ?
