Here's what I do when I'm scared of writing

It was one of those kinds of projects that makes you lean back a little bit, like you’re standing on the sidewalk trying to see the top of the Empire State Building.
It’s just so… big.
It’s an outline you painstakingly crafted. And then re-wrote when the editor gutted it.
It’s a pile of interview content from people you respect. Movers in your industry. Hard workers with intimidating resumes. And their precious words are sitting in the file, waiting for you to polish them into something worthy of the time they gave you.
And it’s an unseen, unknowable audience waiting to see the final result and decide whether or not to change something about their business based on what you’re writing.
Yes, I’m still scared.
After 6 years of writing thousands of articles, hundreds of white papers, and more in between. After half a million dollars. I am still scared when I sit down to write!
Because there’s something in our Lizard Writer Brain that says…
Maybe you’ve used up all your talent.
Maybe you won’t deliver this time.
Maybe you never had it in the first place.
Yes, talented B2B writers feel these feelings and think these thoughts. I have yet to meet one that hasn’t!
But the ones who are successful know something that new writers don’t. That it’s OK to be scared. That it’s actually a pretty normal part of the process. And that you can feel that fear… and do it anyway.
Here's to doing it anyway this month -- because you are way more talented, focused, and capable than you give yourself credit for.
P.S. Have you watched the B2BWI trailer on loop yet? Drop me a line and let me know what you think!
