I’m shutting my business down. For real. 

Because here’s the deal: when I set out to build Business Class, my number one priority was to build something that gave me a kind of flexibility I’ve never had before. 

I’ve learned along the way that as a leader it’s important to set an example. When you model the values and behavior you want your team to live by, you give your people permission to do the same. Which actually means it’s kind of your job to take time off. Wild, right? 

Rest is so important, especially during these uncertain and exhausting times. I’ve led burned out teams, I’ve been burned out myself, and there’s nothing worse than entering the holidays, and especially a new year, feeling like shit. 

So when I hired my tiny team of two, I made sure to set boundaries from day one. Twice a year, we take two weeks off, together. Completely offline. No emails, no calls. Windows shuttered, lights out. 

This year, it’s extra important that we all take off at the same time. In an era where “time off” often means sitting at home where you’ve been working for the past 10 months, having your team banging at your inbox can make it virtually impossible to disconnect.

Now that we’ve entered December, take a moment to plan some time off, and if you have one, for your team. And if this season doesn’t work for you, find a few days where you and your team can take some rest together in the coming months. Even a four-day weekend is a great opportunity to rest and reset.
