THIS FOLKS is ABOUT the New Suffolk White Cap Boarding House!
BY DANNY McCARTHY?
{The “100 Years Ago” column that is also a part of The Long Island Traveler-Watchman dated November 12, 1981 within that SD-60 Southold SPLIA said: ?
“The White House was built at a cost of $330,000 in 1792. The porticos were not furnished till 1827. The building, rebuilding and furnishing are said to cost $1,700,000. The park and garden surrounding the mansion comprise 20 acres. The house is modeled after the palace of the Duke of Leicester.” ?
* Aha! – AGAIN Aha! - Southold resident and friend Maria Gizzo was just inquiring about the SOUTHOLD WHITE HOUSE - and I can begin yet another Linkedin.com post!}?
That?Maria Gizzo WHITE HOUSE request is actually for the?WHITE CAP?building found in NEW SUFFOLK!?
Well now …?
I did actually find the entry about WHITE CAP?“BOARDING HOUSE” within the pages of the New Suffolk SPLIA {Society for the Preservation of Long?Island Antiquities}.?~?WELL:?Since I know what I’m doing!!?~?That listing is file # NS-35. Here goes with some actual quotes from the document pages:?
????“The house is situated on a quiet street within the grid originally laid out by Ira Tuthill (& others) as a masterplan for New Suffolk in?1836. The houses around it are well spaced and surrounded by neatly kept yards in the manner of the traditional American village.”?
????“2 ? story, 5-bay, gable roof Italianate house with fa?ade gable over center bay. Gothic headed windows in gable. Magnificent wrap-around porch with turned posts and sawn spandrels and original railing and balusters.”?
????“The house was originally built as a private home for an Irish politician from Brooklyn. Thirty years later{,} it was a boarding house for approx. 50-60 fishermen. The present owner rents out the various apartments during the summer.”?
IT WAS AN HONEST?&?TRUE PLEASURE TO “NOTE” –?
“MOORE OR LESS”:?
The New Suffolk Story?volume by Marjorie M. {Moore}?Butterworth got entered within the?NS-35?document.?AND by that I mean an incorporation of pages 18 & 19 from? The New Suffolk Story?had been xeroxed and placed “cut-and-pasted” within?NS-35?by the?Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities.?
Alright Dan: So what’s the story? …?
In those pages 18-19?that were placed within the?NS-35?document?on?the original?SPLIA?layout, on page 19, one finds a mere portion of page 19 with text missing and an arrow in red ink pointing to a photograph of the?White Cap Boarding House.?
????The caption typeset below that photograph read:?
????“Popular Boarding?House of the time on Main Street known as the ‘white {stet] Cap.’ Present owner?Joseph?Fudjinski.?

Speak in Loud Volumes …?
I must return to just another bit of information found within the?NS-35?pages.?
????The final page available of the?NS-35?document is attributed to the?Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical n.d?{n.d. {?}: “no date” ?} then (1964?) was typeset meaning that the?Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Society?in doing their research for the xerox page (found as the final?NS-35?page} where there are two photos found from the?Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council?– that the date of the those photos entered is probably c. 1964.?
????The captions to the left-hand side of the two photos included are:?
“NEW SUFFOLK (Showing Post Office and Goldsmith & Tuthills?
{AND}?
“Looking east MAIN STREET (New Suffolk) from?5th?Street.”?
The lower photo on the right-hand bottom portion of the final page found within the?NS-35?entry has a black arrow pointing towards a building at the right-hand section of the second photo that was placed with the handwritten phrase below the photo directing the viewer that you one would see {as the handwritten phrase “reads”}:?
????“Fudjinski at the right.”?
GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH {Well – That’s?what?I do do!} …?
I was able to locate this entry online?from the?

“Joseph Fudjinski (1905 – 1981) Joseph Fudjinski was born on May 10,?1905. He died in August 1981 at 76 years old. We know that Joseph Fudjinski had been in Brooklyn, Kings?County, New York.”
EVEN FURTHER NS-35-relate info, okay?
Town Hall staff worker Mark Tweedie in April 2012 actually managed to randomly “capture” “updated” “add-to information” to be placed along with previous Society of Long Island Antiquities listings AND ONE OF THEM just happened to be White Cap Boarding House where it was printed om his version appropriate “add-tos”:
Mark Tweedie mentioned that the address of the building is 16500 Main Street and that the “Current Status of Historic Building(s) or Place(s): Extant
?“Evidence of Structural Modifications (if any) {were}:
????“-Windows in front fa?ade have been replaced, otherwise features intact.”
“Notes: -Incorrectly identified in original survey as a Centered-Gabled type Italianate as it lacks a low-hipped roof in center cable; hose actually retains mostly Gothic stylistic elements. For example, Gothic-headed windows in gable peak intact.”
Also according to Mark Tweedie’s NS-35 entry is about the photo which I have duplicated and placed atop this MY POST! And the acknowledgement for that photo is:
????“Photographic Record of Historic Building(s) or Place(s) – April 2012”
And too that that particular image featured on the NS-35 page where Mark Tweedie is listed reads the description of the photograph as:
????“North Fa?ade, West Elevation
ALL RIGHT {or can I say “all left” -?like in politics?}?
I have actually been able to deliberately place my own creative and appreciative style of my?Linkedin.com?posts.?There happens to be some of my?Linkedin.com?posts that directly share information about NEW SUFFOLK?“as pasted {post} links.”?
????Here are a couple?of those links?from my?Linkedin.com?account?“directly linking you to the information I WROTE”?“relating to NEW SUFFOLK – and guess what folks?”?There just happens to be entries about? The New Suffolk Story?found within.?{!!!}:?
