I’m rarely lost for words. But this week so many posts seemed meaningless.

It’s been a heck of a week for everyone with many lives completely turned upside down. I’m acutely aware of those who are suffering – with the virus, with isolation, with looking after others, and with loss of income. As a small business, I know I’m in a precarious situation myself. But so far, none of my clients have cancelled. And as a remote-worker, weirdly my life hasn’t changed that much.

I’ve spent the week working on my projects and trying to do the best job I can supported by my new research assistant who is boosting capacity. I’ve been having meetings and workshops online, not unusual for me anyway. One client explained that her husband was isolated in the next room with coronavirus. That focuses the mind. But work has carried on.

My biggest issue has been stress. As a natural problem-solver and planner, I love fixing things. I think I can fix anything. Over the last week my in-built SWOT and PEST antennae have been on overdrive analysing *everything* and looking for solutions. As well as looking after my children and parents, I’ve had lots of ideas for both community and business initiatives, some of which I’ll be progressing. As ever, it’s about finding principles and priorities. I’m now finding the principles I want to act on which is helping me move from stressful brainstorming to tangible planning.

In my profession, it’s looking bleak right now for some. But the fact is that some industry sectors (our clients) are winning, some are losing and some are reinventing themselves in the current circumstances. My job is to reinvent brands and businesses and to focus propositions. So I am confident there is going to be a demand for that in the short and long term.

I’m going to be launching ‘Colourful & Co’ which will be a team of freelance strategists and writers across the UK ready to help fix businesses. The aim is for both parties to work together to succeed.
