I'm a procrastinator...

I'm a procrastinator...

There, I said it.

Over the years when I should have been focused on 'the work' I instead procrastinated. I...

  • Doodled a note when I should have been scheduling a meeting
  • Designed an image when I should have been testing my code
  • Scoured the web for a minimal CRM instead of attending a meeting
  • Automated a process instead writing a status report
  • Practiced writing more succinctly instead of documenting a system
  • Installed urban desktop wallpapers instead of focusing in a meeting
  • Created a project dashboard instead of writing requirements
  • Designed a new, better, prettier template instead of using the company one
  • Organized source code when I should have been writing new code

That's a (very) small list of all thy ways I procrastinated over the years, instead of 'doing my job.'

So now...

I'm an entrepreneur.

I procrastinate for a living.

By doing more of the things I used to do when 'not working.'

  • I help businesses sound real, not fake
  • Only take on clients willing to replace jargon with human-speak
  • Make things look pretty (project dashboards, client proposals, portfolios, my process and gads of others)
  • Hack the language to express a vibe vs be grammatically correct
  • Created a website with a voice and look, nothing like the bull-shit, boring, mundane crap we see for most business websites
  • String my favorite minimal tools together to run my business (invoicing, credit card payments, tasks, collaboration, video, writing, planning & scheduling, selling, marketing... you name it)
  • Write loads of templated emails I use everyday when talking to leads & clients
  • Wrote an FUQ page that tells it like it is

In other words, I gave myself permission to convert procrastination into the life I love, live and lead.

What are the things you're doing when 'not working?' Things you love to do, even when not getting paid for it?

Have a look at self. I did.

And now I get paid for... Being clear. Being real. Being bold. And for creating an entire experience for clients they cannot get anywhere else on Earth.

That's what happens when you 'bring it.' When doing more of the things you love and are built for.

You create a footprint that’s you-nique. Even if someone else does what you do, they don't do it "the way you do."

So yes, I'm an admitted procrastinator. Doing more of what I'm built for. Helping others do more of what they're built for.

Just thought to share. Kind of like that scene in Revenge of the Nerds. "There's more us nerds than you beautiful people." The nerds acknowledged themselves. And loved themselves. So will you.

Ready to proclaim your procrastinations aloud? You'll feel better. And you might see what you should be doing for the rest of your life.

What are 3 things you love doing when 'not working.'

Could be the start of something big, bad-ass and bodacious.
