I'm off and running....!!

In 4 weeks' time, I'm off to Kenya with a team of people who will be running, walking or cycling a half-marathon, marathon, ultra-marathon or more in support of the work of Compassion International.

Compassion works in many of the world's poorest countries, running child development programs and seeking to meet the needs of children in some of the most deprived circumstances. Through individual child-sponsorship, Compassion commit to provide education, medical support, vocational training and counselling to children and families born into profound poverty.

I've followed the work of Compassion for many years and have learned that true poverty is NOT the absence of riches, but the absence of HOPE.

Children born into slums in inner cities rarely have hope for an education or for a balanced path in life. But through the work of Compassion, “Compassion Children” are given an education and many have gone onto University education and beyond.

So as part of my involvement with this organisation, I have committed to go to Kenya to raise awareness of the work that Compassion are doing and the plight of the children.

Apart from the physical commitment, my challenge is to raise ￡10,000 or alternatively to see 10 children sponsored out of poverty.
