I'm Moving On
Cue Rascal Flatts "I'm movin' on. At last I can see life has been patiently waiting for me. And I know there's no guarantees, but I'm not alone. There comes a time in everyone's life when all you can see are the years passing by..."
As a New Homes Sales Professional it is inevitable that someday you will sell out of your community and have to move on. I find myself in this very position and the ending is bittersweet.
I have had the privilege to work for an amazing builder for the past five plus years, in a wonderful community where I have made life long friends among my home buyers.
As Rascal Flatts would say. "I've lived in this place and I know all the faces."
It is about the eighth community I've closed out in my 30+ years in Real Estate. This time I am making a change. I'm moving on but not giving up on Real Estate. I love it, I'm good at it and I plan to use my second wind as a General Realtor.
I have learned a lot in all these years but if someone asked me the most important thing you can do for your clients, as a Realtor, I have to say, listen to them. Answer your phone and your texts when they call or reach out, because they need you, and then actually listen to them. They will tell you all you need to know to sell their house or find them a new one. No, I mean it, LISTEN. So many Realtors I have worked with over the years either never answer their phones or text, and when writing contracts in my sales office, do all the talking, no listening.
So somewhere down the road I will be listening to my potential clients and buyers. And when I learn what they need from me, I will take care of it. I will find them the right house, or help them stage and sell their current home. I will know what to do because I will listen to them and they will tell me. And when they call me with questions or text me with concerns, I will answer the call or return the text in minutes, not days.
A wise person once told me, "God gave you two ears and one mouth for a reason. Listen twice and speak once." Good advice.
Listen in life, too. Those who are quiet and just listen will learn. I would have to say it is likely the number one reason for my amazing successes over the years. You can't communicate effectively if you are not listening first.
Be still and listen.
(This picture is my daughter who had a butterfly land on her hand. She was being still and it just flew right to her. Amazing things happen when we are still and just listening.)
