I’m Just Out Here Getting Influenced by Influencers!

After a long day of work, who doesn’t love flopping down on the couch, grabbing a favorite beverage, and scrolling through social media? I know I do! Whether I'm laughing at funny videos, eyeing a new accessory, or noting a good planting soil recipe for spring repotting, social media feels like hanging out with cool friends from the comfort of my home.

As a Self-Care Curator running my business and creating content for social media, you'd think I'd be too drained to scroll after a long day. But I find value in it—everything from catching up on political news to learning something new. One lesson rings true: we're never too old to learn!

Continuing our celebration of remarkable women for Women’s History Month, I want to highlight the female social media influencers I follow and adore:

First up, Jackie Asamoah (Aina)! I was hooked from her very first YouTube videos. Remember the catchy “Jackie, Jackie, Jackie” song? I loved her blunt conversations and makeup tips, but what kept me engaged was her bold stance against beauty brands that overlooked dark skin Black Women. She risked brand deals to speak her truth, and years later, she’s now married, boasting 3.1 million followers and her own fragrance line, FORVR MOOD. Her authenticity and commitment to our community have solidified her star power.

Next, we have Talia Cadet. Her tagline, "Hi, my name is Talia, we love a list over here—make sure you’re following for daily lists,” had me hooked! As a self-proclaimed list girlie (don’t judge my desk!), I appreciate her insights on Black-Owned Brands, Black Book Reviews, Black Author Conversations, Black Book Clubs, Black Book Tok and giving us the 411 on events in the DMV. With around 170K followers, she’s doing an amazing job connecting with her audience. Plus, she was one of the seven influencers who bravely sued the U.S. government over the TikTok ban. Go girl—proud of you!

Then there’s Roxy Couse. This macro influencer with about 200K followers captured my attention with her "Cheers to the Homebodies" video series. Watching her prep her office, whip up her favorite cold brew coffee, and stride into her home office with work clothes on gave me major goals—all while I’m in PJs with snail mucin on my face! I had the pleasure of chatting with her last year, and she’s just as delightful in conversation as she is on screen.

Last but definitely not least is Paige Tailyn, my go-to for plant inspiration! Hilarious and genuine, she’s passionate about fabulous cold brew coffee and plant care. With 763K followers and a collection of 475 plants (yes, you heard me) Paige shares the best tips for indoor gardening while advocating for mental wellness through her platform, Bloom Effect. Her journey, inspired by the loss of her grandmother, reflects her commitment to serving others while discovering herself.

These incredibly fabulous Black Women are out there making waves in the social streets, entertaining us while giving us some serious gems. If you're not following them, follow them!
