I'm not interested...WAIT WAIT WAIT...I'm interested?
With nearly every position I recruit for, there is at least one person I reach out to who kindly tells me that they aren’t looking for a new job or are happy where they are – only to contact me weeks later asking if the position is still available.? They are circling back to me because they have been laid off from a job they were happy with just weeks earlier.? However, because positions I recruit for get filled so quickly, those opportunities are no longer available.
Just because you are currently happy with your employer doesn’t mean your employer is happy with you.? Being happy with your job doesn’t mean that changing business conditions won’t change your employment situation.? And being happy today doesn’t mean you won’t need a new job tomorrow.
?? If a recruiter reaches out to you about a position that seems even remotely interesting, I encourage you to have a conversation with them about it.? It’s a great way to learn about a new opportunity, gauge your market value, and build a relationship with a recruiter. ??
?? Discussing a new job opportunity isn’t being disloyal to your current employer – it’s being responsible for your career and livelihood.
