I’m a Hypocrite
tl;dr: say one thing in a blog post, then do the exact opposite. That’s pretty much the definition.
Yesterday was a bit of a tough day for me.
Only three hours after I hit “publish” on a post called “Respect for Time,” I completely disrespected someone’s time by being 15 minutes late for our scheduled call.
As if that was not bad enough, later in the day I completely forgot about another call. I only saw the “missed call” notification 45 minutes later.
It was rough. I realized again, I’m a Fundamentalist.
Before I start preaching to others about how to respect time, I should just shut the hell up and do my part first. Leave it at that.
One of the core values I try to bring to this blog is to not care at all whether 1, 10, or 10,000 people read it.
The blog is supposed to be a workshop, my workshop, where I do the daily practice of writing meditation.
Sometimes, however, it’s difficult to remember that I’m not TRYING to write for an audience. That’s when I get preacy and fundamentalist. I get caught up in “oh, I need to tell the world this.”
The reality is that no one really cares about what I think on a given matter.
My coach, Joe, sent me a book called “The Tao of Leadership.”
There’s a great quote in it:
“Just because God it not a thing doesn’t mean God is nothing. A little humility is in order.”
Yesterday was a good reminder of that.
