I’m Here for a Good Time, Not a Long Time

I’m Here for a Good Time, Not a Long Time

What’s that saying fishermen are fond of? “A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at the office.”

Easier said than done, when you’re sitting on a frozen lake and the fish simply aren’t biting.

I have a group of buddies with whom I icefish every year at Devil’s Lake, ND. Last year, we must have caught 200 perch and 30 to 40 walleye. This year? Zero perch and maybe nine walleye.

Nine fish caught by nine guys.

Not our finest expedition.

But, hey, we had set up our icehouse on the lake, put on the heaters, drilled holes in the lake ice, had a few adult beverages and spent the day fishing.

When we were done fishing, we went back to the house we rented. We had some food and more beverages of the alcoholic kind and watched music videos on YouTube. Jokes were flying, tales of fish and other game animals that got away were shared and a good time was had by all.

Having Fun Is Important

That is a core philosophy of mine. Enjoying life is important. That includes my work life. I love coming to work every day. If one of my customers has a problem, and we can help, I’ll work 12 hours a day until we fix the problem. And with a smile on my face.

In our 11 years of existence, we have completed 686 projects worth $212 million in 11 states.

That brings a smile to my face.

That we have created a competent, hard-working and smart workforce makes me smile too.

How many heavy civil construction companies can say they have never been in court relating to one of their projects? Well, we can. And that makes me smile.

Lastly, the fact that we have many, many repeat customers and much of our new business comes from referrals by old customers makes me happy.

What a refreshing read! It's clear that having fun is at the heart of everything you do, whether it's on the job site or out on the ice.
