I'm Not Good At This

I have a confession to make. I'm learning something new, and I'm struggling to figure it out.
I've spent over 25 years building a career as a training facilitator, public speaker, and interviewer, so I assumed that starting a podcast would be natural and easy. (If you have a podcast, you're likely laughing right now).
But that's not how it's going.
Starting a podcast is hard. Really hard.
I feel like it “should” come easy to me, so I'm beating myself up and asking myself what the heck is wrong with me.
I keep recording and re-recording the same things, instead of trusting the process. And one of my worst fears has already come true: I interviewed someone for what I thought was an amazing episode, only to realize after the recording that I hadn't plugged in the podcast microphone (face plant emoji).

Yes, that really happened.
It's been quite an experience. If I didn't have an amazing coach, I would probably have given up by now.
After recording an episode last night, I was feeling?discouraged again, and when my 15-year-old son asked me what was wrong, and I told him I was struggling. He reminded me, just like I would remind him, that learning new things is hard.
This feeling of being bad at something new happens to everyone, including organizations, employees, and job seekers. Then I was a substitute teacher many years ago, I read the book, The Power of Yet by Maryann Cocca-Leffler, to my second-grade class. It's about the fact that when we're learning new things, we aren't good at them… yet.
It's a concept that I've used to coach my career clients through interviews and even networking. I always tell them, “You're not a good interviewer… YET, but you will be if you keep working at it.”?
Sounds like I need to take my own advice (and my son's advice).
So, if you're facing challenges, whether you're a business owner or job seeker, keep going. Remember that learning and growing are part of the process. The power of YET will help you get there.?
…and maybe remember to plug in the microphone?
