I'm going to move my emotional home

I'm going to move my emotional home

For some time in the last few years, I've felt like my baseline of emotions was lower than I wanted it to be.

While experiencing it, I probably didn't realise it.

I got good at accepting my reality, focusing on acceptance and mindfulness as part of my response.

It wasn't until a way more positive emotion showed up that I realised where, gravitationally, I was falling.

I listened to this video of Tony Robbins help someone else with this and wanted to share the tips from it:

Get a new experience, one where you feel e.g. proud, joy, excitement etc. and you felt this for days and days this new range of emotions starts to become where you live rather than occasionally spend time.

You then won't go back to the other emotional home.

You won't want to.

To start: Write out all of the positive emotions you feel in a week on one side of a page.

Then write out the negative emotions you feel in a week.

This about which side of the page is more powerful - the negative side is this is true for most people.

Think of an emotion that if it became the dominant emotion of your life, one or two, it would get rid of the negative emotions in your life.

It could be courage, joy, gratitude, love etc...

Figure out what you're doing when you're experiencing those things:

  • What are you focused on? Normally it's what you HAVE versus what you don't have, and you focus on what you can control.
  • What story are you telling about the moment in front of you?
  • What state are you in? Are you rested and recovered? Hydrated and eaten enough food or dehydrated and starving? Breathing shallow or long slow exhales?

All of this changes your experience in the moment, and this can help change your emotions.

Move different.

Choose to focus on what you have.

Look after your body.

What do you think?

That's a very helpful article, Philip and, if I'm honest, a bit of a wake up call.
