I’m Getting Hooked On Microsoft Loop

Can It Benefit Product and Project Managers?

I’m always on a quest to boost our team's productivity by exploring new collaboration tools and I recently discovered the new Microsoft Loop and it looks very promising. We already use Office and Gmail in our organization, so I might be biased toward tools in their suite, but initially, I'm optimistic.

Our new discovery, the Microsoft Loop product is a collaborative app suite aimed at transforming how people collaborate and work together.

Why are we testing it?

  • Enhanced collaboration: Loop facilitates collaboration across teams and applications, eliminating information silos and promoting real-time co-creation.
  • Improved communication: Shared components and pages enhance communication clarity, simplifying discussions and decision-making.
  • Increased agility: Rapid iteration and flexible workspaces foster faster adaptation to changing priorities and market needs.
  • Boosted productivity: Centralized information and centralized processes help our product managers work smarter and save time.
  • Streamlined feedback and approvals: Embedding Loop components directly into documents facilitates more efficient feedback loops and approval processes.
  • Data-driven decision-making: Loop can integrate with other Microsoft tools to provide product managers with real-time data and insights for informed decision-making.

I love its simplicity

Loop lets me easily share with my team for collaboration and with my clients for setting expectations and reporting. It offers three straightforward objects to simplify this process.

  • Loop components: These are portable blocks of content (lists, tables, notes, etc.) that can be embedded and interacted with across various Microsoft apps and services, including Teams, Outlook, Word, Whiteboard, and the dedicated Loop app.
  • Loop pages: These are flexible canvases where you can combine components, links, tasks, and data, creating shared visual workspaces for brainstorming, planning, and project management.
  • Loop workspaces: These are shared spaces where teams can see and organize everything related to a project, making it easier to track progress and stay on the same page.

Why it's not ready for prime time?

  • Bugs, bugs, bugs: Microsoft has a lot of clean-up work here.
  • Limited integrations: Very few integrations with 3rd party key services that are widely used in project management.
  • Limited customization: Currently, Loop offers less customization compared to dedicated project management tools.
  • MS Office integration: Integration with certain Microsoft apps and services is still under development.

Overall, Microsoft Loop holds promising potential for project and product managers seeking to improve collaboration, communication, and overall workflow efficiency. However, it’s new and buggy, and at this point, it's a fit for the early adaptors of us who can manage well in chaos.
