I'm the first to admit!

Coaching, consulting, and speaking to help nonprofit consultants shake off the “shoulds”, drop the scarcity hangover from the nonprofit sector, and find abundance in entrepreneurship. Fractional Fundraising Movement.
When I came across today’s podcast guest? Tiffany Allen , I’m the first to admit that I jumped to some quick conclusions.
Tiffany helps people start nonprofits.
My gut reaction is that we don’t need more nonprofits. And we don’t need people without nonprofit experience starting nonprofits.
I’ve seen this conversation play out over and over again, mostly online. A collective “WAIT” by the nonprofit community every time someone says they want to start a nonprofit.
In my conversation with Tiffany, it was quickly evident that this gatekeeping is actually harmful and perpetuates racism and oppression.
Instead, how can we think of empowering others to start organizations that directly meet the needs of their communities - oftentimes communities we know nothing about!
I’m so grateful to Tiffany for having?this conversation?with me and I know you’ll love it too!
Tune in,
Cindy
Not Waiting on the World to Change
1 年My first experience as a parent of an autistic child in dealing with a charity centered around autism told me right away that we need more charities--a lot more charities--run by and for disabled people. Too often they have been set up by caregivers or service providers and they have never explored their ableist and paternalistic roots. If charities in the disabled sector had similar principals to HIV/AIDS organizations in fostering GIPA/MIPA, disabled people would be able to access meaningful services and advocate for change without the gatekeeping of caregivers. (Yes, I have a draft blog on this topic that I started in about 2014.) #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs
