I’m Exceptional at What I Do

This is for every individual, every entrepreneur and every business who has forgotten how awesome they are at what they do. 

It’s amazing how many people are afraid to confidently say that they are amazing at their jobs. Perhaps they forget? Or they don't see it?

When they quote their price, and enter that dreaded negotiation conversation, business owners, especially small business owners, tend to resort to all sorts of justifications:

Ah, but I have a team and overheads...

But we’re a small business – we can’t afford those terms...

But we have fixed hourly rates...

But that would affect our profit margins...

But, but, but...

What about just saying, ‘Well, I’m exceptional at what I do, and this is what my time and effort is worth.’

Why do the justifications need to be anything bigger or smaller than that?

If you’re busy, and you’ve got your hands full with one client or the other…

If you’re creating moments of delight for your clients…

If they’re happy with you and keep coming back to work with you…

Then you’re exceptional at what you do. You've got it right.

Unless you desperately want a deal to go through for reasons other than money, don’t cave in to the pressures of negotiation.

Stand tall and confident in your offering. Hold your ground - it’s the kind of energy that rubs off.

The right kind of customer is going to see the value of that stand that you take, and any doubts they had will dissolve. If they don’t, and they’re still chasing a discount, then they might not be the right kind of customer for you.

It's not easy. It’ll take letting go some of the wrong kind to make room for all the right kinds. In life, just as in business, don't you think?
