I'm Currently In Transition
As I continue my transition, I’ve thought about what motivated me to become a leader in several industries, including areas such as energy, manufacturing, vast IOT hardware and software. The more I thought, the more reaffirmed I now am about what I love – accomplishing complex goals, projects or objectives through the skills and passions of a group that seek to be better, bigger, and more complete than anything I could achieve alone. My teams have invented many of the products in use today. Our goals many times have included production completed with much less resources and well ahead of schedules.
I have worn many hats to get products and services completed. Running large companies, starting companies, building teams and raising capital to name four. Opportunities to grow from my experiences and others are never ending.
Guide the rider – Give your team a clear understanding of WHAT you are trying to accomplish. By leveraging my leadership attributes and familiarity with directing complex operational initiatives, we have incubated many new- patented, never-done-before technologies. My teams enabled products with more cost effective hardware and software applications and have had shorter go-to-market cycles.
Motivate the elephant – This is accomplished in many ways by inspiring others intensively to believe they can achieve great things and then setting up the processes for success. It matters that everyone is heard and valued. In my life we always achieved much more than was expected with "roll up" our sleeves, get it done posture,. We valued smarter creating speed, quality, efficiency and cost reductions which that can be limitless. Doing the hard work of first understanding the full picture, then getting everyone on board. So getting everyone on board will be more effective when you look them in the eyes and listen; Thus, creating as many win-win solutions as possible. You also need to garner respect with everyone so you can find middle ground and motivate everyone to real solutions. Inspiring and being persistent will eventually win them over if done correctly. This point becomes even more critical as you work with an increasing number of those who see working for a purpose crucial to job satisfaction.
Clear the path – As the leader, you are responsible for making sure the team can succeed by providing everything they need whether it is clear requirements, proper scoping, or just reassurance. The team will come together to achieve their goals no matter the obstacle of the day.
Guiding, motivating and clearing are plainly simple but profoundly meaningful ways to produce great results. I should add that I have always been fortunate to be surrounded by fantastic individuals that want to be part of a great team. As a leader, this creates a dynamic reciprocal relationship between my colleagues and I, which further feeds my passion.
For those building teams and products, when the process on Friday meets with complication and resources aren’t available to discuss the issue, it is important as a leader to reassure your team so they do not overreact. Most of the time on Monday you find it wasn't a problem after all and was easily solved. Thus, reassuring teams and team leaders will prove beneficial for completion of the overall project not mater the issue.
Let me know your thoughts…

Stephen
