If I’m an Account Handler / Client Advisor, what are the MAIN things I need on my CV that Insurance Brokers look for when hiring?

As an Account Handler / Client Advisor it’s KEY to put the following on your CV to stand out. I see a lot of candidates who only put their job title and responsibilities but miss out the most important information! Don’t leave anything to assumption. It’s always better to put more on a CV vs not enough. Recruiters will search for key words so make sure they are on there.

Here’s what you need to include!...

?

  • Current types of clients you deal with currently? Do you specialise in anything in particular?? What Sectors do you cover? Commercial / HNW / Private Clients / London Market Specialty?
  • What risks do you deal with for these clients? What are you technically strong product wise? – This is an opportunity to really stand out? Do you have cross-commercial lines knowledge (Property, Casualty and Liabilities) Go into detail here, more is better than nothing and helps to see your product knowledge and level. For example – Commercial Combined, Liabilities (which ones), Marine, Cyber, Property Owners, Property Portfolios, Construction, Motor… the list goes on.
  • Do you look after your own book of clients or is It shared?
  • Do you support one Account Executive / Director, or are you a Handler for more than one?
  • How many clients roughly do you look after? – Here you can talk about how many per month, or in a year if you deal with more complex cases.
  • Size of clients? SME / Mid Corp / corporate (in income ideally), if you don’t know that then premium size will do.
  • Largest Client dealt with? – talk about the client and go into a much detail as possible without naming the client.
  • Average size of clients dealt with?
  • What are your Strengths? – Are you a relationship builder? Is Administration your Strength, or maybe it’s sales, renewals, or client management? Tell us, clients like to know. It also helps to put the right opportunities in front of you.
  • What kind of relationships do you have with insurers? – Name names. If the hiring broker can see you have a relationship with an insurer they use then that could be a deal breaker!
  • What insurance systems have you used?
  • Do you have any other experience – Maybe you deal with Delegated Authority, Binders, Spreadsheets (Bordereaux)
  • What are your achievements? You may have played a major part in assisting with a client? – tells us! Give examples
