"The pursuit of excellence is gratifying and healthy. The pursuit of?perfectionism is frustrating, neurotic, and a terrible waste of time."
- Edward Bliss
Most of us?spend about?50% of the total project hours?on?completing?the last 10%.?
?The last 10%?of the project, which is usually dedicated to?pursuing perfection, can be overkill. If it is a writing project, it's?the?time you spend rewriting, editing, and adjusting graphics, fonts, size, colors,?and?headings,?that?eats up nearly 50% of your project hours.?
?It's here where your inner perfectionist or your emotional insecurity begins to crawl out of its shadows.?
Editing is a necessity, but we need to become objective about when to let it go.???
?The best way to get more done is to cut out the overkill.?If?we?can decrease the time spent on the last 10% of our projects,?we?can get nearly twice as much done.??
?A friend of mine is an artist. I've had the privilege of seeing her paintings at various stages of creation. Inevitably, at about the 90% mark, I'll?say, "That's a work of art." And then the next time I'd see it when it's 100% complete, she'd have added more touches, and the genius and beauty that was briefly there would be?gone.
?I invite you to examine a project you recently completed or are finishing now.?
Once you realize how much time you're wasting in the pursuit of perfection, you can move on.?It's a wrap.?
Trust yourself to know when it's done, done, and done - and let it go.
OK, we said it, and now we're done and ready to move on.?
Enjoy the weekend.??
?"Have no fear of perfectionism. You'll never reach?it."
- Salvador Dali
