Often observed that people with very limited possessions either poor are also happy whereas even people having envious possessions are not happy or they are not visibly happy. People working with difficult collogues or family members are also Happy. It amounts to that mere possessions or relations alone cannot make you happy or poor. When we chase after materialistic wants, there is absolutely no limit to that. While I am walking I dream of getting a cycle, but it does not end at that. Having cycle next I think of a motor cycle or scooter. There is possibility of leading to unending chain of materialistic objective. When we are not able to get what we desire we in a state of unhappiness.
In fact, we can have a formula for Happiness index as:
Happiness Index = (No of desires fulfilled) / (No of desires)
In order to have better Happiness Index there could be two options:
1.?????? Higher the numerator or No of desires fulfilled, the Happiness Index would be higher: but we can see the paradox here as our desires are fulfilled, but mean while many new desires have originated in our mind. It could be an unending chain. Hence the numerator is irrelevant
2.?????? The diminishing Denominator or reduced desire: this will have a very positive effects on Happiness Index. Just for argument, let’s say we have zero desire then the index of Happiness would be infinite, irrespective of fulfilled desires. Infinity is such a state when even a large number added or reduced would make no difference. In other words, my Happiness remains what it is as nothing can adversely affect. So, in real life we may not have zero desires but as limited as practical or live the content life
Apart from content life following factors are essential to make our life Happy
1.?????? Being content: Being content does not mean we should not have ambitions or we should not be earning. It implies that we should be content with what we have

2.?????? Self-less: We cannot be only taker but a giver to the family & the society we live
3.?????? Follow Dharma: One should honor the values such as truthfulness, kindness, Respecting others etc. Before taking any action one should think if I was to face it how would I feel? in short think reciprocal relationship
4.?????? ?Karma oriented: we must perform our duties and accumulate Karmas. We should be action oriented and not result oriented. When we focus on results, we miss the whole control on actions & we may even miss some vitals!
5.?????? Appropriate importance to Logic and faith: We need to balance between our brain & heart
6.?????? Meditation and Prayers: thru meditation and prayers we are seeking the support and blessings of supreme power. It energizes our mind so as to bring best out of us. ?
?
Happiness, is a state of mind. Happiness is own choice what we make in life

1 年Vinod, Exceptional post that merits a read. In my opinion, everything hinges on the perspective of the individual. I recall a classic story that goes as follows: An elderly man had only eight hairs on his head. He went into a barbershop. The barber asked him frantically, "Should I count or cut them?" The old man responded, COLOR THEM!
