Stress Tip #11. Three Tips for Dealing with Procrastination

If you procrastinate doing projects or chores that you dread, how do you feel when the deadline is approaching??Do you feel even more paralyzed to get it done??Or does it motivate you and give you more energy when your back is against the wall and it is the 11th hour?

The truth is, most of us procrastinate about things we dislike or things we know we will struggle with.?Instead of putting it off, and increasing your stress, try these suggestions instead:

1.?????Break the task down into smaller chunks.?If you estimate the task will take two hours and it needs to be completed in 5 days, you could spend 30 minutes each day and be done a day early, making it seem more manageable.

2.?????Ask for help.?Sometimes we procrastinate because we don’t have everything we need to complete the task.?Is there a friend or colleague you can ask for help or advice??Is there a book or article that you can get from the library to guide you??Gather the resources you need and the task will be less overwhelming.

3.?????Dive in.?Sometimes getting started is the hardest part, but once you’ve hurdled that obstacle, you can keep up the momentum and push through.?

Use these tips the next time you are tempted to procrastinate. It's the old pain Vs pleasure. Putting it off just keeps the pain always present.?Get that unpleasant job done, and enjoy the benefits of not waiting until the last minute.?You may find the resulting peace so appealing that you never procrastinate again!?
