You'll think I'm crazy but when you hear my story, you'll understand why. It goes back to the early 90s (not the 1890s) when I introduced my first "Counsel Approaching The Bench" ltd.edition print at the Sausalito Art Festival. Anyone who was a lawyer or was married to or the parent of a lawyer, stopped in their tracks and said, “I have to have a print of that!”
Backing up a second, I need to let you know I am a fine art humorist. myWell, I’m a fine artist but all I create is Art That Makes You Laugh?. And one of my most successful pieces, ever, was the creation of a series of images showing two sharks heading towards a judge in a courtroom with a jury looking on.
I started with “Counsel Approaching the Bench” #I and when that sold out, I created a new painting (same concept different view) and a number of limited editions. Boom! They all sold. Then I did #II, and it sold out. Ditto #III, #IV, #V. #VI is still happening.
I was ecstatic at the responses over the years and always surprised when a sale happened. Once, when I had to see a bankruptcy attorney (dang), I was flabbergasted to see he had one of my “Bench” on his wall. Fortunately, I did not need his services (however he did charge me for the hour).
So as I move into semi retirement I wanted reach out to all the lawyers, families of lawyers, parents of lawyers and ask, “If you love the lawyers in your life, wouldn’t you like to make them laugh?”
