Ile-Epo: Police Arrest 50 Suspects, Uncover Drug Hideout
The Nigerian Police Force has announced the restoration of calm to Ile-Epo in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State following clashes between youths and hoodlums. Reports from The PUNCH indicated that numerous individuals sustained injuries during the altercation in the Ile-Epo vicinity. The conflict reportedly commenced in the market area on Wednesday night and persisted into Thursday morning, resulting in the incineration of several shops and the destruction of merchandise.
However, on Thursday afternoon, law enforcement officials, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Oke-Odo, intervened in response to the unrest in Ile-Epo. They managed to apprehend over fifty suspects linked to the clashes and demolished the shanties they occupied, thereby disrupting their illicit activities.
In the course of dismantling the shanties, authorities stumbled upon a concealed drug den, exposing the prevalence of criminal activities in the area, particularly drug-related issues. The Lagos State Police Command, through a statement signed by the Lagos PPRO, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, acknowledged this discovery on Thursday.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, swiftly directed the immediate prosecution of the arrested hoodlums, emphasizing the determination of the Command to address any breaches of peace in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), Area Commander Alagbado, and other Divisional Police Officers stationed under the Area Command remained vigilant to prevent any potential resurgence of unrest in the area.
