IITs have become victim to rote learning due to coaching classes - NR Narayana Murthy
Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy on 16th November expressed concern over India’s education system saying that even the IITs are becoming a victim of learning by rote due to the “tyranny of coaching classes.” Murthy suggested that our education system needs a reorientation directed towards Socratic questioning.?
Now whether we need to reorient our education on Socratic questioning or Gandhian or Aurobindo or Rabindra or Jitu Krishnan, but I am absolutely clueless as to why Indian Parents are hell bound to sending their wards in expensive well renowned schools and yet also enroll them as early 7th & 8th standards for competitive exams be it JEE or NEET or even UPSC.
Are the schools not answerable for the performance of your wards or aren't they inducing fear and doubt about your child lagging behind in school assessment when of course out of 30 or 60 odd classroom setup only 3 would excel as the very environment within a classroom setup harbors a competitive environment rather than a collaborative one.?
We have developed an efficient assessment system to assess our students but what assessment mechanisms have been incorporated to genuinely assess the teachers. If a teacher isn't able to bring out the excitement and engagement in class then shouldn't the hiring practices of most schools be revisited.?
Beyond subject knowledge isn't teaching itself an art which comes through consistent practice, flair and passion. If ever a school charges heavy fees for building their infrastructure shouldn’t their negligence of hiring better teachers than investing on infrastructure be questioned.?
We have multiple forms of school system in India be it some international Baccalaureate or Private or Government & Quasi Government schooling yet none have come close to addressing why rote learning has been the primal core value of our education system.
If ever you have come across ancient wisdom or Vedic form of schooling one would realize that beyond subject knowledge to be memorized much of the stress was given on sharpening one's mind through sharpening their senses i.e. by performing shatkarma practices such as?
-tratak to develop better focus for your eyes: bindu tratak or placing a dot on the wall and focusing on it to improve ones focus followed by darpan tratak or observing oneself on the mirror for better sense of confidence or diya tratak or placing a lit up diya and focusing on with an intention to diminish all mental chatter and finally surya tratak or sun gazing during sun rise and sun set to be in absolute awareness of reality around.?

-chanting full length Vedic slokas to develop better speech than simple A,B,Cs, while removing all fear and inhibition to speak up clearly all along the 47 Sanskrit phonics as against 26 English phonics. (devanagari 33 consonants or vyanjan are equivalent to 33 vertebrae of your spine while 14 vowels or swar are correspondingly related to the 7 swar of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa).
-developing listening skills and honing one's control on his/her mind through listening to mantras or placing an earthen pot (matka) on the head of the student and asking him/her to chant mantra while wearing matka to be self aware & confident of his/her voice and to develop better hearing.
-involving students to meditate or perform breath work to reach a natural state of breathing pattern which is rhythmically ideal for performing reading, studying or learning activities as only in a calm state of mind a student is able to gather and integrate information or knowledge.?
While Vedic Education System stressed more on practice and self learning through developing interest, Tutorial & Coaching classes' main motive is to absolutely KILL one’s ability to self study as it thrives on a dependency model cultivated by your self doubt, your fear that you put against your children.
