IIT Madras Students Unveil Hyperloop Prototype to Transform Travel Experience

A dedicated team at IIT Madras has created a hyperloop prototype to transform transportation. The project named "Avishkar Hyperloop" gained limelight worldwide for its success and a step towards sustainable travel. This could change the way movement is perceived so far.?

All You Need To Know About Hyperloop?

The Hyperloop is a high-speed transportation system initially proposed by Elon Musk - the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX in 2013. It consists of a network of low-pressure tubes in which capsules or pods can travel at ultra-high speeds in a vacuum to reduce air resistance. The contactless magnetic levitation gives a soundproof travelling experience while reducing travel time.?

In simple words, the hyperloop allows travel at near-sonic or even supersonic speeds, potentially revolutionizing long-distance transportation. This technology combines the key benefits of speed, flexibility, comfort, safety, and sustainability.

About Team Behind Avishkar Hyperloop

The 'Avishkar Hyperloop' is a team effort of more than 50 students from undergraduates to doctoral level at IIT Madras. The collaborative efforts and learning of all these people have brought the concept to reality. Medha Kommajosyula, the leader of this team, will continue to work on the project to take it to the next level in the next decade if the momentum persists.?

The team leader stated, "If we continue working at the pace we are going at right now, we may be able to build the first working Hyperloop rail on a large scale in the next ten years or so." This dedication is a must to innovate something new and to beat the competition for technology worldwide.?

The project caught the spotlight when India's Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, took to Twitter and praised the young minds. She wrote "Congratulations! Interesting. Wishing you all success in your future endeavours too," in her tweet.?

Now, almost every individual is aware of the skills and efforts of the students of IIT Madras for their innovative hyperloop project. It is a big achievement for India.?

Recognition and Competitions

At the recently-held European Hyperloop Week 2023 (EHW), the Hyperloop Team Avishkar has emerged among the top three teams globally. Also, this team was the only non-European team that was nominated for many award categories in this competition.

What is EHW?

The EHW 2023 is an annual global event that allows university students, guest speakers, and companies to discuss Hyperloop technology. In this competition, various teams from around the world represent their innovations in hyperloop, its future trends, and more.?

In the last competition, around 23 participants from various colleges and universities across the world qualified for the final rounds. This year the EHW was organised by the University of Edinburgh.

More About the Achievements of the team "Avishkar Hyperloop"

In 2017, after gaining popularity as a competition team at the Center for Innovation (CFI), team Avishkar Hyperloop participated in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition in 2019. In that competition, they were in the top 10 among more than 1,600 teams. Also, in the same competition, Team Avishkar Hyperloop stood as the sole Asian finalist.?

At EWH 2021, the team secured the 'Most Scalable Design' award and got top-five positions in the Traction Systems, Electrical Systems, and Complete Pod categories.?
