More than 70% of the planet’s surface is covered by it and?Islands are in a prime position to utilize its energy, cultivating a “Blue Economy”.?The “Blue Economy” seeks to address the need to foster economic development while promoting ocean health and human well-being, and one of the key aspects of?building resilient island communities?is to utilize this immense trove of?renewable ocean energy.??

For many small islands — including many Small Island Developing States (SIDS) —?ocean energy?may be their best option for switching to renewable energy. Plastic Free Balearics Warns Of False Solutions And Proposes Honest Alternatives

The launch of the new “Guide to Honest Alternatives to Single-use Plastics for the Hospitality Sector” coincides with the anniversary of the implementation of the Balearic Law 8/2019 on Waste and Contaminated Soils declared March 20 2021. The law bans the sale, distribution and use of single-use products such as disposable plates, cutlery, glasses, cups and food trays made of plastic.

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands has announced the first resort-based conservation technology project using drones in the Maldives. In a unique partnership with British PhD researcher Melissa Schiele, the resort will play an integral role in a government-approved research programme to develop drone methods to search for, and quantify ocean plastics in the Maldives.
