The IHRA working definition on antisemitism and why LinkedIn should use this as well.

?The text of this contribution is taken partly from the website of the IHRA. For the full text I refer to: https://www.holocaustremembrance.com/resources/ihra-working-definitions-and-charters.

The experts in the IHRA’s Committee on Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial built?international consensus around a non-legally binding?working definition?of antisemitism.

This definition is:

“Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”

?Manifestations of antisemitism might include the targeting of the state of Israel, conceived as a Jewish collectivity. However, criticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic. Antisemitism frequently charges Jews with conspiring to harm humanity, and it is often used to blame Jews for “why things go wrong.” It is expressed in speech, writing, visual forms and action, and employs sinister stereotypes and negative character traits. ? Contemporary examples of antisemitism in public life, the media, schools, the workplace, and in the religious sphere could, taking into account the overall context, include, but are not limited to:

  • Calling for, aiding, or justifying the killing or harming of Jews in the name of a radical ideology or an extremist view of religion.
  • Making mendacious, dehumanizing, demonizing, or stereotypical allegations about Jews as such or the power of Jews as collective — such as, especially but not exclusively, the myth about a world Jewish conspiracy or of Jews controlling the media, economy, government or other societal institutions.
  • Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.

In posts I got from a user on LinkedIn, Ria. B. she said the following:

  • Ria B. said: “Zionists really sound like a broken record, arrogance radiate in abundance…. Many people like my self support the Palestinians Resistance. They have the right to define and fight back the ‘Israeli’ Zionist terrorist apartheid regime…”
  • Ria B. said: ?I’m calling out what Zionists are Nazi War Criminals…? Like I said before, go on collect your paycheck from Bibi (my tax dollars) for spreading misinformation. You clearly demonstrate that you are not qualified to hold a position as a Theologian… over and out.
  • ?Ria B. said: As an American, I have visited Palestine and the illegal occupied territories by Israeli Zionists. I have seen segregation, Apartheid, discrimination, 24/7 harassments, heavy guarded checkpoints, I’ve seen everything that defines APARTHEID…. So go on with your propaganda, history is documenting everything. Your theology credentials failed you, not sure how you got that degree …

She claims that she supports the Palestinian resistance. She supports terror on innocent civilians. No condemnation on her behalf of the Hamas atrocities. Not a single word. She calls Israel “the ‘Israeli’ Zionist terrorist apartheid regime” and “Zionists are Nazi War Criminals”. Saying that Israel is a Zionist terrorist apartheid regime qualifies as antisemitic according to the IHRA working definition on antisemitism. Saying that Zionists are Nazi War Criminals is also antisemitism.

When I confronted Ria B. with her antisemitic statements by calling her that way, my post was deleted. When I complained on LinkedIn about the posts of Ria B., within minutes they were rejected by LinkedIn.

I think that LinkedIn is using a double standard here. Therefore, I plead that LinkedIn will use the IHRA working definition on antisemitism, because it clarifies incitement against the citizens of Israel and the Jews who live in the West who are targeted because of these kinds of incitements.
