IGNOU's New 4-Year UG Program launched

In a historic move in Higher Education Ecosystem of the India, University Grants Commission(UGC) Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar recently introduced a new four-year undergraduate program (FYUP) at Indira Gandhi National University (IGNOU).

Why IGNOU’s 4-Year UG Program aka FYUP is a remarkable step?

1. Course Flexibility:

?? - IGNOU's FYUP lets students mix things up. You can take FYUP courses alongside your regular program or even go for a different subject for a double degree.

2. Several Options to Choose From:

IGNOU's FYUP covers a bunch of courses. Here is a quick list of the courses being offered:

• Commerce:

1. Bachelor of Commerce (BCOMF)

• Social Sciences:

1. Bachelor of Arts (Economics)
2. Bachelor of Arts (History)
3. Bachelor of Arts (Political Science)
4. Bachelor of Arts (Psychology)
5. Bachelor of Arts (Public Administration)
6. Bachelor of Arts (Sociology)
7. Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology)

• Science and Language:

1. Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry)

[Campus Notes: It’s important to note that most of the programs are BA Programs and none are in Core Engineering or Management Fields like BTech/BBA because Professional/Technical Programs can't be offered in ODL (Online & Distance Learning) Mode. Although, IGNOU is having a special School of Engineering and Technology and here are some programs offered by this school:

UGC Chairman said that FYUP from IGNOU will be a game-changer in higher education. Students from all over India can grab these opportunities, whether they stick to their main subject or trying to learn and explore something new.

4. Aligned with NEP 2020:

FYUP follows the vision of New Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It brings in credit scores for each course, giving you choices like a three-year or four-year honors course with or without research.

After completing a 3-year bachelor's Degree, students who score a minimum CGPA of 7.5 will be allowed to continue studies in the fourth year of the undergraduate programme leading to the Bachelor’s Degree (Research).
