IGNORING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

?

It seems so obvious that the subject is almost not worthy of a blog, but it happens way, way more than it ever should. That pesky “Check Engine” light is glowing but the car you’re driving is showing no signs of any trouble at that moment. ?

Most reasonable drivers will get it into an auto repair shop almost immediately but shockingly there are many car owners who simply decide that they’re going to roll the dice and drive their vehicle as far as they can without even giving it a second thought.?

The example today is of a driver from Colorado who needed to get to the state of Washington and decided the easiest way for them was to drive. After the owner of the car had taken the car into the shop to be fixed, they headed off to Washington. Driving just a few miles later, the dreaded “Check Engine,” light appeared. Certainly, everyone has deadlines to meet so this particular driver decided they were going to chance it. ?

One particular note of interest is that this person had been driving with the same “Check Engine” light appearing to and from work so that they didn’t feel there was a rush to have it fixed. It should go without saying that anytime your car tells you to check something, simply you should do it.?

Eventually it did get to the point for the car owner that the car would need to be looked at again by an Auto repair shop. They found that the camshaft sensor performance was set due to a timing component concern and that the engine would run poorly. It also stated that it wasn’t the first time this had happened with this vehicle. It also led to an audible noise and warning indicators indicating that the vehicle’s engine was not protected. The driver simply ignored these warnings while operating the vehicle.?

Because of the continued operation and failure to simply bring their car to an Auto Shop for repairs in a timely manner, the damage had already been done and the claim was denied. ?

Ignoring your “Check Engine” light can have disastrous consequences. Sure, it may seem inconvenient or that no harm is really taking place, but the harsh reality is, don’t disregard the warning signs of having your car fixed quickly and properly. Spending a little bit now will save you from spending a lot…later.?
