Ignore The Naysayers

Have you ever had people tell you not to do something?
Or that your idea or business won't work?
How'd that make you feel?
Did it stop you from going ahead...even momentarily?
Or did it set a fire under you and make you go towards your goal even harder?
For me, it makes me even more determined. Tell me I can't do something and generally I'll show you how I can.
But sometimes a tiny seed of doubt is planted and in those moments when you are feeling low, its voice screams the loudest.
Last month I sent out an email to my list sharing how I helped a client to generate an extra $22,000 in 3 months, I received this email from someone on my list:
"Julie, what are you doing? Don't you know what I do and have done for over 10 years now? Yes, it is coaching and there are 5 to 6 new coaches appear on the Brisbane scene every week now.
Please Julie, don't join them!"
Now I'm really thankful that I've weathered enough naysayers in my life to ignore this kind of an email. For me I feel that they would really benefit from working with me because it screams 'scarcity mindset' and that's something that I help my clients overcome.
But for some people an email like this could stop them in their tracks, cause such self-doubt that they never move forward with their business or sharing their gifts with the world.
And frankly, the world becomes dimmer because of it.
One of my early mentors, Andrew Grant said to me years ago to beware of the Chicken Littles in your life...people who claim the sky is falling. These people will suck the motivation out of you quicker than a Dyson!
When I received this message I went through a range of emotions. It surprised me because I hadn't had this response in a long time, then a little doubt seeped in and I questioned whether I was good enough, then anger at how dare anyone try to limit my capabilities, then humor at the irony that this person had actually paid me to coach them on their marketing strategy nearly 2 years ago.
I responded to their email with "(Name withheld), I've been mentoring and coaching clients for over 5 years now and I stay within my zone of genius which is sales, marketing and mindset..."
Needless to say, they unsubscribed. I wish them well and harbour no ill feeling to them.
If sharing this helps just one of you to hold your ground when you have the naysayers telling you all the reasons you can't or shouldn't do what you want to do, then it's been a success.
Don't surround yourself with the Chicken Littles...find people who will lift you up, encourage you on the tough days and help you make your goals a reality.
Life's too short. Live it passionately, share your gifts with the world. Make it a brighter place.

7 年Thanks for sharing this great reminder! Sometimes the naysayers are members of ones own family, making it especially hard to push forward. It's good to remember they can have an opinion, but you don't have to share it, or agree.

7 年Thanks for sharing Julie Mason. I agree, if we took notice of all the negative feedback that people freely give (whether it's asked for or not!) there would be no progress. Carpe Diem!
