Ignore (Almost) Everything

Ignore (Almost) Everything

The world is overrun with content and most of it is trash. The media is an outrage machine on both sides. Turn off the tv news and turn it back on 3 months later. It's the same people saying the same things. The interwebs are full of clickbait. McUSA Today is written on a 3rd grade level and designed for the modern, micro attention span. I'm done. I don't care anymore. That's right. I just dropped a Phil Collins reference.

No, you don't need to watch the latest coverage of election 2016. It's the same sad choice it was last month and the same sad choice it will be in November. No, you don't need to read that article about how to get a butt like Beyonce. No, you don't need to know what Miley Cyrus's stylist had to say about Kim Kardashian's fashion sense. If you pay attention to any of this, you are wasting your time.

Want to read something? Read Longform.com. Or read books. That's right, actual books. Maybe occasionally scan some serious newspapers or magazines, but stay out of the politics section (it's all trash).

Call it a survival tool for the modern world: Learn how to ignore (almost) everything. Because it's rotting your brain, cutting into your productivity, distracting you from what really matters, messing with your happiness and wasting your life.

Still true. Too much chatter and noise. Just ignore it.

Jonathan Pollard, well said. The upside is that independent thinking is exploding. Years ago a fifth grade teacher said to his class, "Throw your TV away, it rots your brain." You are what you think. The only one who'll program my thinking/beliefs which net my destiny, is moi.
