Ignorance is sometimes for the best

Today morning as I woke up and went for a walk to embrace the beauty and sanctity of nature, I witnessed a very disheartening scene in front of me. There were a couple of piglets and dogs on the street fighting each other. Piglets being young were obviously dominated and threatened by the dogs. While I was ignorant of this incident and continued my walk listening to my playlist, I thought that it is nature’s call to decide the fate of the piglets. All of a sudden I heard a shriek which caught my attention.

To my shock, I saw a lady, about 35-40 years old, hailing stones at the piglets, hurting and cursing them for the nuisance they cause.  On top of this, few other guys joined her to pellet stones on these young animals. Instead of protecting the weak ones, they acted as a catalyst to cause harm to the piglets. I was shocked and decided to stop them, but before I could reach the spot, the young ones managed to escape the stone firing and dodge the wrath of dogs.

I still cannot understand why this partiality towards the piglets, even though the dogs cause nuisance in the neighborhood as well. Why were the dogs not stopped from hurting the piglets? Who are we to decide who should live and who should not? If the piglets were causing nuisance, why wasn’t the Animal Control Board informed about it? Taking law into our hands is not the right answer for such cases.

While these questions flashed through my mind again and again, I realized that ‘Ignorance is better than an irrational decision’. Unless we understand the complete picture of a situation, we do not have the right to judge on it. This incident could have been handled in a much mature manner by helping the piglets escape for time being and informing the concerned authorities to take them to a shelter without any threats. This way the piglets would have been safe, the dogs would have not felt insecure about their location and the neighborhood would have been calmer.

Yes, I agree that I did not take the best decision by initially ignoring the scene, but I did take a better decision than the others. It is better to leave the fate to Mother Nature if you are not completely aware of the situation. Sometimes ignorance is a better answer.

Making an unreasonable decision is as good as committing a crime!

Criticism and feedback welcome :)
