Ignorance is Expensive

Ignorance is Expensive

Ignorance is expensive, particularly in the workplace.

If your employees are unaware of the strategic goals and intentions of your business, their actions on the front-line may not be aligned with what you're trying to achieve. Worse yet, the tactics of your employees could actually be counter-productive to your desired outcomes.

If one department doesn't know what the other departments are doing, they could be involved in duplicated, uncoordinated, non-supported, or conflicted efforts. The lack of cross-functional communication and coordination creates a siloed organization with people working isolated ambiguity.

If a custodian doesn't know which chemicals to use on various surfaces when mopping the floors, he or she could ruin expensive tile or wood flooring, costing thousands of dollars to replace.

If a sales associate in a retail store lacks product knowledge, he or she could cause a great deal of customer dissatisfaction from patrons who need help deciding which products best fit their needs.

If a dealer in a casino or a teller in a bank is unaware of who the high-value customers are at the company, he or she may provide shotty service to a shabbily dressed customer who happens to be a multi-million-dollar contributor to the company's bottom line.

If employees don't know the goals, roles, expectations, boundaries, and authority within their job classification, they may limit their potential by being confused about what is important and what they can do about it.
