Social Good, also referred to as Common Good, occurs when we offer the largest possible population the greatest impact of “good†they can receive. The purpose of social good is to bestow upon such people, the most positive benefit possible. Consider social good as a service to mankind (communities and societies). Examples of Social Good at its core are the three E’s; Environment, Education, and Engagement. Environmental efforts surrounding social good include clean air and water and climate change. In the education arena, social good addresses the literacy rate. And, social good, from an engagement perspective, invites all to play a part in formulating ideas and executing programs, products, and/or services to benefit a multitude of people, such as healthcare and housing.
Let’s look at how we can further scale Social Good as individuals. We can begin by identifying what we are most passionate and empathetic about. What causes remain constantly on your mind? What do you see in your community that needs to be addressed? Then, turn that passion into very meaningful and purposeful work. Investopedia refers to this work as the kind of social good that builds bonds within communities. Additionally, we can enact social good through philanthropic endeavors and fundraising work. Any social and/or civic engagement work that we do reside in this arena as well. Supplementary ways to employ social good can be found throughout various social media platforms and social good conferences/summits. This year’s summit celebrates 10 years of bringing together thought leaders from over 20 countries, coupled with minds (like ours), to address emerging social good innovative thoughts and relevant action.
