Igniting the next breakthroughs

Igniting the next breakthroughs

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are the cultural bedrock of a thriving innovation ecosystem. And a pioneering spirit is crucial for developing an idea into an impactful and scalable product.

I strongly believe that the ability to step out of your comfort zone and embrace the unknown, build resilience and relationships, challenge the status quo, and be challenged by failure are fascinating ingredients of life-long learning and open innovation. They flourish when courageous individuals and entire interdisciplinary teams work together to push the limits of their ideas and engineering and persevere through learning curves fueled by unique experiences, new perspectives, and ingenuity. ?

Diversity of minds

That's why diversity isn't just a buzzword; it's the catalyst for groundbreaking ideas. Diversity transcends age, gender, ethnicity, religion, and physical abilities and encompasses a rich tapestry of cultural backgrounds, experiences, and skill sets. It's about welcoming different ways of thinking, living, and working to unleash unimaginable potential in ourselves and others. I call it “diversity of minds,” a beautiful power that inspires, motivates, and makes people grow.

It's about welcoming different ways of thinking, living, and working to unleash unimaginable potential in ourselves and others.

Leveraging diversity, equity, and inclusion is what makes the world's leading companies successful, including 西门子医疗 . The key is harnessing this diversity of minds and turning it into a collective intelligence. We need an inclusive innovation culture where every voice matters, every individual plays a significant role, and meaningful contributions lead to impactful solutions.

Failing fast forward

That doesn’t happen by chance. It’s a diligent approach and an iterative process fueled by thinking outside the box. The team diverges and converges on a challenge step-by-step until the problem is defined and an idea emerges for how to solve it. This means that you’ll work on a solution, diverging and converging – and speaking frankly, you’ll learn how to fail fast forward. In an inclusive environment, failing fast forward is an opportunity for learning and growth. We experiment, learn, and iterate together, building resilience and pushing the boundaries of what's possible.

In an inclusive environment, failing fast forward is an opportunity for learning and growth.

Please let me emphasize an important message that’s close to my heart: The future of business belongs to those who embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion. Join us in building a world where every voice ignites the next game-changing idea. Together we’re pioneering breakthroughs for healthcare. For everyone. Everywhere. Sustainably.

Peter Schardt, the issue with bringing in people from more diverse backgrounds is that companies and their hiring managers are so ill prepared to enable it to happen. Most big companies have a disconnect between HR, DE&I and their hring managers which means they fail to harness their employer brand advantage. I'd be interested to learn about how you're overcoming the challenges of creating a more inclusive innovation culture at Siemens Healthineers.

The technical foundations are in place and provide a good starting point. But as already mentioned, culture is crucial. Culture is created by people, lived and shaped by people. Before we can harvest successes, we should also be willing to go the extra mile. I think it's important that we are prepared to invest more time in developing a better understanding of the full spectrum of collaboration. It takes human sensitivity to truly embrace diversity.
