Another reason why I love where I work? We give back.
Thank you to the Bob Scripps Community Fund of the Scripps Howard Foundation's generous employee volunteer grant in the amount of $1,250 awarded to the Carmelite Sisters in #Wauwatosa. This will help them continue their ongoing efforts to create enrichment programs for those living with with special needs in our ENTIRE Milwaukee-area community.
There is a HUGE gym from their former school that is now fully refurbished. Once the pandemic is over, they plan to to invite anyone in our special needs community to come and take part in their free enrichment programs. This is what the grant money will be used for.
The non-secular site also has 15 newly built condos units for women with disabilities to live full-time. The goal is to build their confidence and independence. Each woman has specialized daily programs tailored to their abilities. A nurse and social worker also on staff to ensure they are well cared for.

I have witnessed myself while part of the Women's Guild and volunteering for fundraising efforts, a resident named Janis who first moved in withdrawn and quiet. Nearly two years later, she has fully come out her shell! A special arts class she takes on-site each day has helped her learn how to draw her favorite Disney character, Winnie The Pooh. Janis' mother is in her 90's. Her sister told me it was a hard decision for her mother to let Janis go. However she now has the peace of mind knowing she will be living in this facility, and the women who run it are dedicated to taking care of her for the rest of her life.
What an incredible day to take a picture with the ladies dressed up for Halloween during the check presentation.
They are truly thankful to TMJ4 News and the Bob Scripps Community Fund of the Scripps Howard Foundation.
