Leadership is a journey; it involves learning, listening, adapting, and, above all, reflecting. I have realized that reflective practice is at the heart of this process. My journey is intertwined with my leadership and life philosophy. I learned this lesson early in my career when I was a young executive facing a significant challenge with my team. Miscommunication and unmet expectations led to friction, resulting in declining morale. Initially, I tried to fix the situation by implementing numerous changes and new processes, but it didn't work. The real breakthrough occurred when I paused to evaluate my leadership and decisions. Then, I understood the root of the problem – my failure to listen and understand my team's needs actively. This pivotal realization allowed me to approach leadership more empathetically and connectedly. While universities teach us about many things, they often neglect to emphasize the importance of listening. Yet, it is the most crucial skill to master. Without listening, there can be no meaningful reflection. And how many times have you tried just to fix something without reflecting and understanding?

Relevance and Importance of The Importance of Reflective Practice - Reflective leadership practice has a crucial role in an environment of constant change in a fast and modern business context. Quality reaction time is something leaders do not often get to do because of the whirlwind decisions and activities they are involved in. Reflection makes a leader stop, think about his experiences, and learn from them. Recent evolutions provide recognition of emotional and mindful intelligence in leadership. A study by the Harvard Business Review suggests that leaders who practice reflective mindfulness are less prone to make poor decisions, have higher levels of emotional intelligence, and ultimately, lead better teams that push for better organizational outcomes.

This engagement with different cultural perspectives has been profoundly enlightening for our work around reflective practice, reminding us of the importance of reflection in leadership, a universal provision in all schools, irrespective of cultural context.
