iGaming tech: Looking into 2023
The gambling industry is currently enjoying a period of rapid growth and expansion. While growth remains steady in many regions of the world, it is in Europe, in particular, that Online Gambling, or iGaming, is on the rise. Data estimates that the global online gambling market will grow by 57 percent from €48.7 billion in 2020 to €76.6 billion by the end of 2023. That’s an impressive doubling of the market size!
In Europe, the total online GGR, or gross gambling revenue - the difference between the money coming in and being paid out in a given agent - is set to see an increase of seven percent to €26.3 billion in 2020. According to 2019 statistics, five countries with the highest GGR percentages when compared to their GDP are Greece, Italy, Portugal, Finland and Cyprus, relative in order to 1.16%, 1.02%, 0.89%, 0.85%, and 0.75%. Germany, the UK and France also contribute significantly.?
In light of this remarkable growth, what can we expect to see happening between now and 2023? We can certainly expect to see plenty of investment into the iGaming industry as well as new technologies being employed to make gambling experiences more convenient and enjoyable for players.?
In recent years, the iGaming industry has exploded with more players joining online communities and taking part in these digital games than ever before. This has created huge demand for technical experts to help power these companies, and Malta is fast becoming a popular destination to meet this demand.
Tech professionals looking to enter the iGaming arena will find plentiful opportunities in Malta. It is first and foremost a hub for online gambling operators and payment services. It is renowned for its groundbreaking technology and has attracted some of the brightest minds in the industry. Not to mention the country is home to some of the largest iGaming companies in the world, such as Bet365 and Betsson.?
Furthermore, Malta has some of the most attractive tax policies in Europe, with low corporation taxes that appeal to international investors and operators alike. This has made it easier for companies from abroad to set up business in Malta, and many of them are actively recruiting for tech positions in the local market.
