iGaming News with Chilli Partners: October
Legalization of online gambling in the Netherlands
October has started a new era for gambling in the Netherlands. Since the start of this month, players from the Netherlands have been allowed to gamble online, and operators have already lined up for a license.
KSA (Kansspelautoriteit) notes that the manual on licensed sites will be released soon, it will allow players to verify the legality of the activities of a particular site. In addition, the agency urged players to use the services of only licensed operators, since they are located in a safe zone and allow the gambler to be sure of fair play, and allows operators to monitor that the player complies with the regulations related to the restrictions and gambling regulations established by the KSA.
Despite the attractiveness of the market, the number of applications for participation in the gambling business submitted to the regulator turned out to be less than expected. The KSA planned to receive 40 applications and accept 35 of them, but received only 28.
Markus Antle, Head of Sales and Key Customer Management at Greentube, noted that the gambling market will be of great importance for the country since the state will be able to receive taxes from gambling activities. The expert also stressed that the Netherlands acted mildly and did not introduce unnecessary restrictions, unlike neighboring Germany. Nevertheless, now the gambling tax exceeds the critical threshold, which puts the legal business at a disadvantage in comparison with its shadow "colleague". He spoke about this in depth in his interview with CasinoBeats.
French Regulator Checks iGaming Advertising
The French national gambling regulator, L'Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), held its first civic seminar on gambling advertising.
The event is part of the "civil consultations", which are designed to consider the opinion of the French about the advertising of excitement from a variety of points of view. ANJ launched a public survey after licensees failed to meet the requirements of the regulator, they had to provide interim reporting information on ongoing advertising campaigns.
The agency will divide the study into two stages after the civic seminars (which will be held in all provinces of France) and an online survey will be conducted. All this will allow conclusions to be drawn for the promotion of gambling in the country, and to organize measures to protect against the negative impact of such advertising. The regulator adheres to the position that public consensus is required for the reform of advertising legislation. This was reported by SBC News.
Cyprus Profits Despite Pandemic
This is how we can characterize the financial performance of the gambling industry in Cyprus over the past year: the pandemic did not reduce the growth rate of the industry's income, compared with the previous year.
At the 4th national conference dedicated to the protection of players, the head of the financial department, Konstantinos Petrides, and the head of the regulatory body, Ioanna Fiacca, summed up the financial results of the gambling business.
2019 was marked by an explosive growth in income from the gambling entertainment industry to 3.4% of the country's GDP, which was more than 300% higher than in 2016. And despite all the difficulties and surprises, 2020 was also a very successful year for the gambling industry in Cyprus: income remained at about 3% of the country's gross domestic product.
The National Authority, acting as a regulator in Cyprus, is currently working on creating a self-exclusion service that should be universal for users. In this regard, Ioanna Fiacc reminded operators about the upcoming introduction of high certification standards for the stable development of this important sector of the economy for the country.
