Twitch has banned referral links to gambling sites
The administration of the platform Twitch has ordered all streamers who broadcast in the Gambling Game category to remove clips and stop airing advertising referral links to gambling sites. Content creators must do this by August 17th, otherwise restrictions or bans may be imposed on their channels.
The new rule appeared after heated debates around the morality of these broadcasts. Many streamers said the platform should not encourage gambling advertising, because these broadcasts can be watched by minors.?
Now content creators will have zero motivation to stream their sessions in an online casino, because they will not be able to earn money through advertising registration codes or referral links. At the same time, the gambling category itself will continue to exist on Twitch without additional restrictions.
Danish operators have created a board for gambling advertising
Danish operators have created a new board to deal with complaints related to advertising in the gambling industry. First announced last summer, the new gambling advertising board (Spilreklamen?vnet) will allow consumers and organizations to file complaints about gambling marketing activities.
“In the gambling industry, we are well aware that we are responsible for users who spend time in games, " said a representative of the board. “Our board is now like a "watchdog" that should help to ensure and support responsible and ethical marketing of games." The board has already received one complaint and has started considering a case on this issue.
In July last year, new rules for online casino advertising came into force in Denmark, which prohibit the display of gambling brands next to bank logos, and also prohibit the promotion of products such as loans and credit cards along with gambling.
Belgium has lowered the weekly deposit limit
The Belgian Council of Ministers recently signed a Royal decree that will reduce the limit of weekly deposits for online gambling platforms from 500 to 200 euros.
The Belgian regulator BGC said that the protection of players is one of its most important duties. The BGC representative added that gambling is not like most other types of business, since they do not provide any physical product other than a chance to win money.
The royal decree reducing the weekly limits of gambling deposits is not as radical as some would like. An earlier offer provided for the same reduction to 200 euros per week, but in all directions for all gambling sites on the Internet. The charter approved by the Council of Ministers limits the weekly deposit for each specific site, which means that a player can make several deposits of 200 euros on different platforms.
However, the decree allows operators to refuse deposits if it is known that the player has outstanding debts in other online casinos. This measure additionally allows the Gambling Commission to cooperate with the National Bank of Belgium in order to monitor the deposit activities of players.
