Smart Cities Council is pleased to welcome International Free Zone Authority | IFZA , “International Free Zone Authority” based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates as our latest Global Member.

Providing a suite of integrated, end-to-end services for companies globally establishing operations in the rapidly expanding Middle East market, IFZA, the world’s fastest-growing free-zone community, has a proven track record of attracting thousands of businesses to Dubai and for contributing significant foreign direct investment into the UAE. Dubai is one of the most dynamic and business-friendly cities on earth with forward-thinking policies and initiatives focus on diversifying and expanding the economy, including the Government’s Agenda D33, whose goal is to double the size of Dubai's economy over the next decade and to consolidate its position among the top three global cities in the world.

Dubai is committed to fostering sustainable development and preserving its environment for future generations. The city has undertaken various initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint, increase energy efficiency, and promote the use of renewable energy sources, and has introduced progressive policies toward industrial acceleration, developing the innovation sector with a strong focus on AI, and an emphasis on entrepreneurship within the region.

“SCC is laser-focused on providing our members, partners and global network with products, services and solutions that build capability, capacity and collaboration. With the Middle East being the centre of the Smart Cities world currently with projects like Neom in full swing, having members like IFZA being able to offer SCC members end to end, fast, cost-effective full-service solutions to establish operations in the region is a huge benefit,” said SCC Global President Corey Gray .

The total scope of the smart city is till date not defined, it is this chaos that is creating a negative image of smart cities.

I read of this new partnership and worry about the reputation Dubai (and other parts of the UAE) has for inhumane treatment of thousands of migrant workers (Asian and African) that are brought to the region, often under false pretenses and pay exorbitant fees, to toil behind the scenes of this opulent city. That is a concern. [See https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/2/2/new-report-highlights-labour-rights-abuses-at-dubais-expo-2020, for example and many other similar articles] Smart, sustainable cities should be safe for all residents, workers, and visitors.

I propose the joint implementation of the "Safe City" program Defend Manholes of Wells, Well + Manhole + Castle I am a developer and owner of Patents for Special Locks for Hatches of Wells. The Safe City program deals with the solution of Our common problem - the disappearance of manhole covers and dangerous open wells, which are still getting bigger on the streets... The problem of open wells exists now practically in all the republics of the former CIS and our near and far abroad - England, Poland, USA, India, Bulgaria, China , Japan , Africa ...

ALSO - Smart Cities are not overrun by Crime. Most major cities need to get a firm handle on law & order before ANYONE will be willing to commute back into a city. Can't have a Smart City with a LOT of crime. https://intpolicydigest.org/the-platform/smart-cities-beware-some-concepts-are-already-obsolete/
