Fire services play key role in tackling youth violence

Multi-agency efforts address serious youth violence

A report published on 20 November 2024 by Ofsted, His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) , HM Inspectorate of Probation, and the Care Quality Commission underscores the importance of fire services and other agencies in addressing youth violence in England.

A 2023 Youth Endowment Fund survey found that one in four children in England and Wales had been victims or perpetrators of violence, and nearly half had witnessed violent incidents.

Global safety solutions provider VIKING Life-Saving Equipment has signed an exclusive worldwide agreement with South Korean company FAIN Co., Ltd., a major supplier of marine firefighting systems, to deliver certified services for fire safety equipment in marine environments.

MSA Safety awarded $33 million US Coast Guard SCBA contract


Production of SCBA units underway in Pennsylvania

MSA - The Safety Company has been awarded a $33 million, 10-year contract by the US Coast Guard to supply new firefighter respiratory protective equipment.

The contract includes the provision of MSA’s G1 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for use by the operational surface fleet and surface support facilities.

The Fire Industry Association (FIA) has launched a web-based platform designed to support fire safety professionals and businesses in the UK.

According to the FIA, the “Compliance” portal offers tools to help users meet British Standards, including BS 5839-1.

The platform simplifies certification by providing standardised documentation, creating compliant checklists, and enabling the generation of digital certificates.

New EU firefighters association launched

CTIF to represent new EU firefighters association in Brussels

A new association dedicated to representing firefighters across Europe has been established, with the International Association of Fire and Rescue Services (CTIF) taking a leading role.

According to CTIF, this group aims to consolidate the voices of firefighters from various EU member states, strengthening their representation in European policy discussions.

People News: NFPA appoints Andy Jenks as Chief Operating Officer

The NFPA has announced the appointment of Andy Jenks as chief operating officer.

According to the NFPA, Jenks will now be responsible for overseeing the association’s operations in this newly appointed leadership role.

Jenks joined NFPA in 2018 as vice president of marketing and digital experience, later expanding his role in 2020 to include the IT division.

Project Focus: Flame and smoke barrier installed in ExCeL London

A full-height flame and smoke barrier has been installed as part of an expansion project at Excel London , a major events venue in the Docklands area.

According to FIREFLY? FIRE BARRIERS , Krasi Fire Protection Limited , based in Coventry, completed the six-week project.

KRASI used FIREFLY’s Phoenix 120 fire barrier system to provide 120 minutes of fire integrity in compliance with Approved Document B and the Building Safety Act.

The installation covered 800 m2 and involved a steel angle framework with fire-resistant materials secured using heavy-duty staple guns and Collaroll adhesive. Find out more about the project.


Product Focus: New fluorine-free firefighting foam approved for UL and ULC 162 standards

National Foam Inc has announced the launch of its UniversalF3 Green 1%-3% AR-SFFF (Alcohol-Resistant Synthetic Fluorine-Free Foam) concentrate.

According to the company, this firefighting foam is designed for combating fuel-in-depth tank and spill fires and is the first AR-SFFF concentrate to achieve UL and ULC 162 listings for Type II and Type III applications.

The foam meets these standards when used at a 1% solution for hydrocarbon fuel fires and a 3% solution for polar fuel fires.

Additionally, UniversalF3 Green has received high ratings from LASTFIRE for nozzle performance across fresh and saltwater environments. Find out more about the product here.
