Writing is the most dreaded section when it comes to appearing for the IELTS examination. Whether it is cohesion, coherence, vocabulary, or being able to express their thoughts, everything seems to be a challenge.
Let's try to understand how you can ace this difficult section and score well.
- Paraphrase
Use synonyms throughout your essay. For example: Important can be written as essential, crucial, integral, or vital.
2. Tenses
In the entire essay, use different forms of verbs. For examples: go, went, had gone, will go, would have gone, etc.
3. Collocations
Certain words sound the best when used together. For example: at a stretch, in a row, make a change, make a promise, and take a chance. Use such words in your writing task if you want to score well.
4. Adverbs
Words like arguably, generally, usually, and undoubtedly are some of the adverbs that you can use in your paragraphs.
5. Adjectives
Use descriptive words like exhaustive, intelligent, honest, intense, profound, that add more weight to your thought. For example: It was an intelligent idea to build the international panel to curb environmental pollution.
6. Articles
Did you notice I have used "an" before the word intelligent, in the previous point? Using "A" or "the" would have been wrong in this scenario. Make sure you use the right articles in your essay.
7. Capital letters
"I", first letter of names, first letter of cities, country names, and continents will always be written in CAPS. For example: Australia, Asia, India, Bengaluru, etc.
Also, remember that U.S. and U.K. will always be written as the U.S. and the U.K.
