Is the Ideologue-Jam Promoted on Purpose?

An ideologue is a person who displays an adherence to an ideology and is uncompromising and dogmatic. A logjam refers to a crowded mass of logs blocking a river. Add the two together and you get a logjam of one’s rational thought processing, when the discussions move outside their frame of reference or belief system.

We all have friends with different value systems and personalities who display driven sensitivities about certain subjects. They tend to have little or no personality; they lack an identifiable belief system but display emotional outbursts when certain topics or issues are brought to light.

Some people have a wide range when it comes to a sense of humor while others possess a limited or a conditional sense. Others want humor to fall within their own acceptable ideology no matter how narrow minded it may seem. If you step out of their bounds of humor an ideologue-jam will occur. Today there are so many belief systems, opinions, interpretations it is hard to keep up. You may find yourself dancing on the head of a pin in order not to offend someone.

One of my friends who considers himself Mr. Comedian, displays slanted and sarcastic responses until religion and politics are brought up. Then its lights out on humor, and a stern response comes that those subjects are out of bounds.

Do you remember the classic movies and TV series where the latitude of displayed humor was broad? “Blazing Saddles,” “Grand Torino,” “Young Frankenstein,” “All in the Family,” “Sanford and Sons,” “The Jefferson’s,” “The Carol Burnett Show,” and “The Flip Wilson Show,” just to name a few. These films and shows had satire, innuendos, put downs, and ethnic slurs, and all the above was an acceptable form of humor.

An allusive or oblique remark, a hint for belittlement or disparagement of another person was common. These jokes were encouraged and considered within the bounds of acceptable humor.  Bigoted or hypocritical remarks, laced with humor, were most times designed for displaying examples of ignorance and narrow mindedness. These were teachable moments disguised as humor.

Roll forward to current day, and you will find the parameters of acceptable humor have been boxed into tiny wooden crates. We now live in a culture of intolerance and outrage. Someone who suggests a humorous comment must be concerned about offending almost everyone and everything. You might offend conservatives, liberals, religions, LGBTQ, ethnicities, poor, rich, in-between, none of the above, or all the above.

The purpose of political correctness is about controlling our voices and thought processes. The government understands that by not being able to think analytically, express opinions, display humor or sarcasm will warrant us neutered. Our lack of personal power, and freedom of expression, will create dependence on government. Bigger government, more regulation, more controls, more penalties, and much less personal freedom is the aim. This is the clear and present objective of the ideologue-jammed political correctness police.

Why is the public at large willing to submit to such subjugation? Even responsible citizens have grown accustomed to being terrified and subjected to harassment by the state including ostracization and disparagement on social media. Mobs of angry political correctness police will show up on your door steps or your web-based presence to demand quietness and submission by you.

How about a stand-up comedian being required to sign what is referred to as a “behavioral agreement form,” which limits the presentation of humor in various subjects? “By signing the contract, you agree to our no-tolerance policy in regard to racism, sexism, class-ism, ageism, able-ism, homophobia, bi-phobia, trans-phobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia, or anti-religion or anti-atheism.” The comedian may have to come up with some humorous interpretation whether a napkin is made of original content, or recycled content.
