Identifying My Why
PART ONE
WHAT DID YOU LOVE DOING AS A KID?
When I was seven I was wandering around Haughville in Indianapolis, exploring the neighborhood, creeks, and drainage tunnels. When I wasn't doing that I was walking over to the library, reading, telling stories or learning how to write programs for my Commodore 64/128 so I had games to play.
One thing that strikes me now is that almost all of my quiet activities were all about gathering and then sharing stories. I explored because I wanted to discover new things and then share those experiences with other people. When I played games on the computer, even to this day, I play them for the story elements. Same with movies or TV shows, the narrative is what keeps me engaged.
HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE REMEMBERED?
I want to make the world better for my family, my neighbors and my community. I want to be remembered as kind, empathetic and wise. And I don't want to be alone.
IF MONEY WASN'T AN ISSUE, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
I would travel with others to share in, guide and be guided in their adventures. To the best of my abilities I would embed myself in local situations and try to help those without power to balance the scales.
WHAT MAKES YOU ANGRY OR SAD?
Abuse of power, lack of opportunity, learned/trained helplessness, non-functional oligarchies, lack of basic personal liberty.
HAVE YOU EVER GOTTEN LOST IN A PROJECT?
It's not unusual for me to get engrossed in conversation and lose track of time. I love building relationships.. I also lose myself in complex problems at work and will take on enormous tasks if the problem is interesting, new or fun.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU FREQUENTLY GIVE TO YOUR FRIENDS?
Try new things, or also, try this specific new thing.
PART TWO
USE THE ANSWERS TO YOUR PREVIOUS QUESTIONS TO FIND YOUR PURPOSE
I want to work together with people to solve complicated problems that leave our community and the world a better place than when we found them. Along the way I want to wander the planet and share that journey with my family, friends and those that I meet along the way.
WHY?
Life is short and full of puzzles. No one should have to solve those puzzles alone, unless they want to.
